I bought a HP Slate 7 (3400US) with free T-Mobile 200 MB/month. The device itself seems reasonable for the money. Do not expect it to perform like a Nexus 7. We use it for simple games, browsing, email, music, it performs well. I use it over wifi mostly, and even with good internet speed sometimes is slow to render websites. I watched Netflix HD movie, and was happy with the performance. You must have broadband service to get HD quality, obviously.
The problem with this device is that there are not too many accessories (eg. a decent case). I bought a cheap one, it is clunky, but seems to do its job.
I added a total of three users to this device, and each gets to customize it without affecting other users. This is important for me, so my personal information is not accessible to other users, and hopefully you can control what apps my young kids play. JellyBean 4.2.2 Andrioid version is pre-installed, and dont expect to get 4.4 (kitkat) any time soon. HP is slow in pushing these. No wonder they are loosing money.
Note: This does NOT come with a headphone, but that is not a big issue for me.
T-mobile customer service sucked big time, they had not clue about this free offer. On the day I received the tablet, I was playing with the settings and got locked out of the device “SIM disabled. PUK lock required to unlock” or something similar message came up. Telephone support was useless, they directed me to go to store. Store person wanted me to buy a one month data plan so she could activate my tablet with T-mobile. After back and forth, I was able to get a new SIM card, as the SIM itself was locked out. I inserted the new SIM, and tablet started to guide me through the activation process with T-mobile. T-mobile did not ask me for a credit card, sweet! Next day, the tablet said “NO service” and I have live in this area for many years, and I know there is service here. I called T-mobile and once again was disappointed with C. The customer service tried to tell me that I am in a dead spot but looking at the service map online. However, over the last 10 days, I have not had that problem again, even during severe weather.
For the money I paid, $130, it is a no brainer especially when you add the 200 MB/mo free data. I added SQUARE Trade warranty, which I had to use on my Kindle Fire, and they are excellent.
I am adding a 32GB microSD card for movies on the go. Have yet to try Skype, which will be one of the reasons I bough. The camera quality is acceptable to me, albeit it is a bit lower resolution. Again, I look at the price I paid, and so can’t complain much. Battery appears to hold well, will find out more when I take it for a road trip.

This does indeed come with free 4G. However it is much less reliable then my AT&T Samsung phone. I frequently do not receive a 4G signal when my phone does perhaps it is because is T Mobile.
The GPS is very unreliable, after being off by several hundred feet. Forget about using it for driving navigation, it often has you’re on the wrong street. I also got it to use for geocaching but again it’s extremely unreliable.
The charger is often unreliable and doesn’t always make a connection or comes loose. For some reason in Europe it was much less reliable than in the United States although it is supposed to support 220 volts.
When I first got it it was constantly rebooting but a factory reset mostly fixed that.
For the price I suppose it’s an OK deal, where else are you going to get free 4G at this cost?However device is overall not very good.
The two stars I’m giving are 1 for the price (beat a $100 tablet) and the free internet for life (only 200Mb but it is FOR LIFE)
The performance of this tablet is pretty upsetting, it feels like a 2007 device being used in 2014 – It does let you surf the web and do some BASIC things and that’s about it. If you want to anything more complex than that (but still normal stuff for any other tablet/smartphone): -Apps crash -Navigation/usability becomes a nightmare -Battery drains much faster -Voice commands just don’t work
The tablet’s design is great, feels like a pricier one and its weight is just ideal.
In summary, go for it if you only need it to surf the web or check your emails on the go. Don’t buy it if it will become your main device, you won’t regret buying it (it only costs $100) but you’ll regret you lost 10 minutes of your time trying to do the simplest of tasks.

Slightly disappointed in T-Mobile data coverage.It is not as good in my (NE Ohio) area when compared to Verizon.BUT when you are in T-Mobile data coverage area, you can quickly & easily setup a hotspot on this device for friends to use with their WiFi devices.

Love this tablet when its functional. However it will randomly reboot. Sometimes when I think its “asleep” its actually depleting the battery completely and a rapid pace. When its plugged in, it will often shutoff. Meaning you pick it up to use it and have to wait for it to boot. Fast when its working but not impressed with sleep/powermanagement/battery at all. I am aware that I should expect rapid battery loss if I am playing some high end game. However when asleep and no games running, it should last overnight on a full charge.
This is my 2nd one. My first tablet power connection on the tablet went bad. so i purchased another after two yrs.. The 2nd tablet is a refurb, and now it wants to stay on only when its pluged in to power source.or when battery is full charged.sometimes that happens. somethings not right. so im sending this one back after 1 month. T-mobile did update the free 200 mb per month on the tablet for me. i always call them and give them my sim card number and they can apply the number to your tablet if you buy another one offering the same promotion.Hope this helps some one.thanks for all of your feed backs

Under powered and low resolution screen. A lot of my favorite apps would work on it. (TV guide being one.)I promptly sold it on craigslist at a loss and bought a Galaxt Tab3 and have been happy ever since...although the HPTP has better sound.
Save your money and skip this one...unless you get it for 20 bucks or less.
I bought one for christmas for my son. It was gentyused and charged but the charging port broke after 3 months. Hp knows this is a weakness in all of their slate tablets. Search on the internet. for all of the bad reviews. This has happened to may many people. They offer a replacement port for 55 usd. ridiculous. and they continue to sell this junk. I bought a dell venue 7 for my other son and it works perfectly.
It's a great design, but the screen looks terrible (too much backlight, silvery sheen, bad viewing angles), and there's no auto-brightness sensor. Also the microUSB port is sensitive and I've read if you're not careful with it it breaks easily. Manufacturers need to stop competing on price and put out quality devices.
I found some slight improvement in the construction of the mini usb port,which was went bad on the previous version of this tab I owned. The port was its major flaw , & I'm not confident it's been improved enough to mean much long term. Seems slightly heavier overall , but maybe that goes along with its improved,sturdier build which I like. An inexpensive tablet , but actually exceeds my admittedly low expectations. Does what I need.

The charging is a little touchy. It would not work plugged into a apple wall charging plug, it would not charge on one of the two PC computers we had and it started up very slowly. Once I got it charged and turned on a few times it started to work ok. We are still watching it to make sure it's going to continue to work properly.

Its good after you have rebooted... when the HP Slate has been on for a little while it becomes very sluggish. The tablet will also on random occasions just completely disconnect from WiFi and the only way yo get it to re-connect is to reboot the tablet. I also had an issue with the plastic holding the power button in place as that broke... very small and flimsy piece... when I googled this I found a lot of people with the same issue. I spoke to HP directly and they refused to send me another power button stating they do not provide these and my best option was to find a high street merchant who would fix it. There is also another WiFi issue in the sense that it does not pickup a signal if you are to far from your router. I am literally above mine and I get 1 bar connection if i'm lucky.. But both my work phone (iPhone) and personal phone (Windows Phone) will receive the connection with 4 bars when they are next to the tablet.
Overall not work the price for the hassle of having to reboot it just so it will work without crashing and obtaining an internet connection.
